The up and down and round and round. It's so predictable but seemingly unavoidable. I know that in a few days or a week or so, Il be on top of the world and excited about my show and il fully understand why I'm doing it and what I'm trying to say. Right now, however, I couldn't feel less confident or even interested in it at all. Now this very feeling was the inspiration for my show name and themes, which is great, but it doesn't make dealing with these issues any easier.  It's not all doom and gloom though, as some of you may know I struggle to work any job in which I have to hold money in my hand or do basic math under small amounts of pressure, which is why I have avoided working in bars and pubs like the plague, but in these times of absolute desperation you obviously have to take whatever you can get. At my second shift in a pub over the weekend something dawned on me about my self and its something that has come up, on the podcast and from my friends and family before, but on Saturday night I felt the relief of forgiving myself and letting go of trivial issues. I felt a million times better! My friends continued to reach out to me and I gradually accepted that and remembered that friends are freaking awesome. Talking on the pod got the darkness out of my skull and into the ether, lifting a huge weight off of my mind. I got myself out to the theatre and saw a banging show called WILD BORE at the Soho Theatre, which inspired me massively and reminded me of the creative power of performers and artists, do go and check it out! You won't regret it. Well you might but still, I thought it was sick!  I joined my family on a trip up to the Midlands to meet my sister's new boyfriend and some old family friends and some family I don't really get to see anymore, that was also great. It got me out of my cabin for a start but also got my head out of my bottom. Thank you to everyone who commented on the post last week, it really made me think about some bits and started a great discussion on the yins and yangs and turns out... without the rubbish times, there would be no need for inspiration, motivation and all the other things that are awesome in life. So maybe I should be more grateful for the dark times as it means I'm constantly searching for inspiration and eventually expose myself to it in its many cool forms... We had the filming of our teaser, doing something you are passionate about and creating something off of your own steam. All of our hard work and fun we put into our writing paid off and we have got a stage further with creating our own work and telling stories we want to hear. Then the very next day I had to go to work at 6am, I was knackered but the buzz from filming our script got me straight up and I was still receiving shots of the happy chemical into my brain, which made my crappy job 10 times easier and more enjoyable because it is enabling me to be creative. Finally, we went down to Devon foraging I got to see my family, learn a little bit about making medicine with shit that grows everywhere! and really connecting with my love for plants and nature in general. Walking in the sea, getting away from any other thoughts and just getting grounded by doing things I love.  Life is good! I chat with my SYC Stand Up buddy, Maria Pullicino about a project she has been working on with Katherine Hearst called Eddie & Frankie: An 8 minute animated short film about Frankie, a lonely teenager and her miner dad, Eddie. It was a real pleasure chatting to Katherine and Maria about all the work they've been doing to create this awesome short. The drawings are beautiful and the story matches that beauty! Kae smashed it with the stand-up comedy this week at The House of St Barnabas and Seven Dials Comedy. Two very different rooms with different reactions and it was great to see Kae grow as she works out how to tell her story.  Two past guests Liam Bergin (BOOM DONE) and Paloma Oakenfold have gone and got engaged and we had a lovely time at the engagement party on the boat! Congratulations to those two beauts!  I get spiritual and rambly and its a bit of a mish-mash ep. I'm beginning to understand and accept things and I'm feeling much better. Even when things are not great I feel more able to stick em into perspective. Also, what do you imagine on the other side of the door at those auditions and production meetings and all that jazz? If you're anything like me, you see gnarley demons in suits, with fire and blood and tridents, ready to tell me how shit I am at everything and it's a joke that I ever thought I could be taken seriously in their mini hell rooms... I've been realising lately that actually, they are just a bunch of humans on the other side of most of those doors and there's nothing to be scared of. I think maybe the trick is knowing who you are and giving yourself the value you deserve and if you try and imagine the other side as a beautiful [your name here] Oasis of YOU loving people, then the meetings may be more likely to go well. I talk through the thoughts I've had recently about finding the right "resting job" for you and applying a positive attitude to whatever that job may be. Resting jobs are more important than I've given them credit for in the past. They are a helpful boat that keeps us afloat in the harder times and I certainly need to learn to be more grateful for whatever that job at the time may be. It also just helps get me into a routine and getting up early and having an early night and a good rest, so that when it comes to a day when you don't have to do that job, you are still able to get up early, crack on and rest well etc. So I need to be more grateful for these jobs, find the right ones for me and use it as a device to keep me disciplined and proactive. My counseling ended last week but it did end on a high and give me a little gem to take away. I've spent a lot of my life worrying about what people think of me and trying to "get it right" this hinders my acting, my comedy, my writing, my pod, my relationships with friends and family and many other things. I've been so busy trying to "fit in" that I've completely ignored my self and who I am, which at the end of the day, is all people want! One of the biggest regrets I have in my life is that I let go of my love for and obsession with Hip-Hop. Writing a silly fun song for my mum on her birthday, I had so much fun and remembered that that was a huge part of me and still is a massive part of who I am so if I can put that into my work somehow I will be a happy bunny, as they say. Find the things you love and what makes you YOU. Don't be afraid to be that version of you in the work that you do. Ah, I see!  When popping out into the real world from the wonderfully safe and warm womb of drama school, some things became clear to Andrew, as they do to most of us. This is not as simple as it was when I was at Guildhall.  Stereotypes come into play, the extended periods of "rest" become a thing. Andrew didn't mess about, he saw brick walls and instantly got to working out how to get through, around, over and under them.  We talk about giving yourself permission to be brilliant. Nurturing your talent and looking after yourself. Exploring all creative avenues that you can express yourself in. Not giving yourself a hard time (referring to some of my previous solo pods).  We also get into what really doesn't inspire you and using that as a springboard to fly in the opposite direction. Chatting about my exciting news with Blog Talk Radio and my conversation with PodVader about the future of Acting Inspired.  For the first time ever I have been silently working away without an endgame goal... and because Ive been focused on what it is Im doing whether than where Im going, that work is starting to pay off in some way! its a small step but just knowing that someone over the pond, found, listened to and liked the pod really made me feel pretty cool!  Thank you to everyone who commented on the post and liked and shared all tweets etc... And thank you especially to Lydia and Laura my two book winners!  I did my first proper stand up gig! TERRIFYING! its mad how you can stand on stage and recite Shakespeare to 1000 people without a hitch... well... its scary but you know, you get through it. But the thought of going on stage with what is effectively your own script, direction and acting is gut wrenchingly awful! You still get through it obviously but damn the fear is intense!  Second time around doing the stand up lab at the Soho Theatre and its going great, really remembering why I love comedy and some great debates have been going down so thats awesome!  Big thing I chat about in this ep is the struggle to balance all the different things that Im doing to stay motivated! Im trying so hard to keep working and keep proactive that other bits of life are getting neglected. Im learning to Juggle a little late in life so any advice would be appreciated!  So thats it for another week! I love Cai's ideas and adventurous nature and the kind of things he gets up to are quite frankly AWESOME!  He has had a whirlwind of a journey since leaving Drama School, with all kinds of ups and downs like the rest of us. It turned out to be a three and a half hour class that I couldn't leave because after the first dude was worked on and poured his heart out I wanted to see every one of them. Im still processing the class as it was a lot to take in, so tomorrow hopefully I will have digested it properly and give a more coherent idea of what I saw, but my initial response is that its as good a class as everyone says... and I realised I miss being in a full time artistic training. We were in the car on Venice beach, watching the Sun slowly fall into the Pacific Ocean where we had previously been getting smashed upon by Neptune's Wrath during our surf session.
